Honestly, I wasn’t prepared for how Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa would hit me when I first pulled up. This five-star oceanfront property sits right on the bluffs overlooking the Atlantic, and you know what? The photos don’t do it justice. The moment you step out of your car — and yes, there’s parking right on-site which is actually a big deal out here — you can smell that salt air and hear the waves crashing below. It’s one of those places where you immediately understand why couples rate the location so highly.

The Montauk Magic

What I love about Montauk is that it feels like the end of the world in the best possible way, and Gurney’s captures that perfectly. You’re perched on this dramatic coastline where the Hamptons finally give way to something wilder and more authentic. The resort has been here since 1926, so they’ve had plenty of time to figure out how to work with this incredible setting rather than against it. During my stay, I’d watch the sunrise from the oceanfront terrace with my coffee — there’s something about being this far east that makes you feel like you’re getting the first light of the day before anyone else.

The room I stayed in faced the ocean, and I mean, those beds really are as comfortable as everyone says. I’m usually a light sleeper, but something about the sound of the waves and those ridiculously soft linens had me sleeping better than I have in months.
