Everything was oh so perfect. From the moment we arrived, to the 5 minutes we were late in our checkout (11:05), we felt so welcome and at home. Everything was oh so perfect.

From the moment we arrived, to the 5 minutes we were late in our checkout (11:05), we felt so welcome and at home.

The only thing I can tell you is this:
Plan your day well, and don't be like us, arriving at 16:30~ --do your best to arrive exactly on time, because every moment you could spend here is infinitely precious. Then again, the natural history museum in Odawa was also fantastic and I highly recommend it for families!!!

Natural setting of the villa. Very good Western and Japanese restaurants.

What could be improved: There is no proper reception and the guard house is not manned at all times. Not easy to get around during night time.

After running the Tokyo Marathon, I couldn’t have chosen a better place to recover than Hakone Retreat Villa 1/F. From the moment I arrived, I felt like I had stepped into a secluded sanctuary. My villa was stunning—spacious, beautifully designed, and best of all, it had its own private hot spring.

The retreat is thoughtfully designed, blending effortlessly into the surrounding nature. Whether I was enjoying a slow morning at the café, unwinding in the cozy lounge, or indulging in a meal at one of the restaurants, everything felt intentional and calming. Both the Japanese and Western dishes were fantastic!

The staff were warm, welcoming, and impressively multilingual, making everything from check-in to local recommendations effortless. The location is super convenient too—right by a bus stop with easy access to Odawara, perfect for anyone taking the Shinkansen from Tokyo.

We stayed in one of the older rooms, because we loved the look, and they did not disappoint! Having the fireplace in the room, and the incredible onsen on the deck, made for an amazing experience we didn't want to leave. The Japanese breakfasts were spectacularly good (and lots of food), and we had one night of Japanese dinner, and one night of the french/western one, and neither disappointed. They also have a little cafe which serves up good coffee drinks and pastries.
