First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a four-star resort in Palm Coast — but this place surprised me. The sprawling property sits right on Ocean Crest Drive, and you can actually feel the ocean breeze the moment you step out of your car. There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it, like they’re not trying too hard to impress you with marble everything, but the quality is definitely there.

What really sets this place apart is its position along Florida’s coast — you’re getting genuine oceanfront access without the Miami Beach crowds or the Sanibel Island price tags. The spa overlooks the water, and I mean, you can literally hear the waves during your treatment. Palm Coast itself is sort of this hidden gem between St. Augustine and Daytona Beach, so you get the best of both worlds — easy access to historic sites if you want culture, but also that laid-back coastal vibe that’s harder to find these days.

My room had this comfortable, beachy elegance — not the overdone nautical theme you sometimes get at coastal resorts, but tasteful touches that remind you where you are. The golf course is actually what draws a lot of people here, and I get it — it’s designed by Jack Nicklaus, and the ocean views from certain holes are pretty spectacular. There’s also a tennis court and fitness center, though honestly, with that beach right there, I spent most of my active time walking the shoreline. Parking is free and right on-site, which is a nice touch that saves you from those annoying resort fees.

The restaurant surprised me — I was expecting typical resort food, but they actually source a lot locally, and the seafood is legitimately fresh.
