Highline Vail – a DoubleTree by Hilton Overview

You know what struck me first about the Highline Vail? It’s actually got this unexpectedly sleek vibe that feels way more sophisticated than your typical ski lodge setup. I mean, when you’re driving along North Frontage Road West looking for it, you might wonder if you took a wrong turn – it doesn’t scream “mountain hotel” from the outside. But honestly, that’s part of what I ended up loving about it.

The location is pretty clever when you think about it. Sure, you’re not right in the heart of Vail Village (that’s maybe a 10-minute drive), but being tucked away here means you actually get decent parking – which, if you’ve ever tried to find a spot in Vail during ski season, you’ll appreciate more than any fancy lobby fountain. Plus, you’re literally right off I-70, so getting here after a long drive doesn’t involve navigating those narrow village streets with rental cars full of ski gear. The DoubleTree thing means you get those warm chocolate chip cookies at check-in, which sounds cheesy but hits different when you’ve been driving through mountain weather.

What really works about this place is how it balances that upscale Hilton polish with actual mountain practicality. The rooms have this clean, modern feel – none of that forced rustic cabin aesthetic that can feel overdone. I noticed they’ve got proper gear storage space, which shows someone was actually thinking about real skiers, not just Instagram photos. The fitness center is surprisingly solid too, though honestly, most people are getting their workout on the slopes anyway. The pool area gets pretty lively with families, especially on weekend afternoons when everyone’s back from skiing and the kids are bouncing off the walls. One thing though – if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe ask for a room away from the pool side, just saying.

The staff actually seems to know Vail, which isn’t always a given at chain hotels. They’ll tell you about the local shuttle situation (it runs pretty regularly to the village) and have decent recommendations that go beyond the obvious tourist spots. I overheard someone at the front desk giving genuinely helpful advice about parking in the village and which lifts to hit first thing in the morning. The restaurant on-site is perfectly fine for breakfast when you want to fuel up quickly, though I’d definitely venture out for dinner – there’s too much good food in Vail to stay put.

Look, it’s not the fanciest place in the valley, and it’s not trying to be. But with an 8.2 rating, it’s clearly doing something right. For the price point, especially during peak season when everything in Vail gets pretty expensive, you’re getting reliable comfort, useful amenities, and a location that actually makes sense for people who want easy access to skiing without paying village prices. If you’re the type who wants to spend your money on lift tickets and good dinners rather than just bragging about where you stayed, this place gets it.

This was a modernized Hilton, refreshing, very clean modern lines. It was very relaxing. It was away from downtown Vail which would have been nice to stay as there was a free Bluegrass Festival on. At the same time it was lovely to come back to the serenity of this hotel. We would definitely stay here again.
