Hilton Grand Vacations Club Craigendarroch Suites Scotland

Braemar Road, Ballater, AB35 5XA, United Kingdom
HOTEL OVERVIEW
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to the Hilton Grand Vacations Club Craigendarroch Suites on Braemar Road – the name alone is quite a mouthful. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked into Ballater proper, which means you’re genuinely in the heart of Royal Deeside rather than stuck in some tourist bubble. The building itself has this sort of understated Highland elegance that doesn’t try too hard, if that makes sense. When you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that you’re somewhere that takes itself seriously without being stuffy about it.
What really won me over was how the suites are laid out – they’re proper apartments, not just hotel rooms with a kitchenette thrown in as an afterthought. I mean, you’ve got actual living space here, which is brilliant if you’re planning to stay more than a night or two. The kitchens are fully equipped (I actually cooked a few meals, something I rarely bother with when traveling), and the separate bedrooms mean you can spread out without feeling like you’re living out of a suitcase. The whole setup works particularly well if you’re using Ballater as a base for exploring the Cairngorms – you can come back muddy from hiking and actually have space to sort yourself out. Parking’s straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven around Scottish villages will appreciate.
Location-wise, you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the village center, which puts you right near the old railway station (now a lovely visitor center) and within easy reach of all those little shops and cafes that make Ballater charming. The Dee is practically on your doorstep, and if you’re into walking, you can pick up the riverside paths without having to drive anywhere. What I found particularly nice was how quiet it gets in the evenings – Ballater isn’t exactly a party town, but there’s something genuinely peaceful about the place once the day-trippers head home. The staff seem to know their stuff about the local area too, which is always a good sign. They pointed me toward a few walking routes I wouldn’t have found otherwise, including this lovely circuit that takes you up toward Craigendarroch Hill (which, coincidentally, is where the hotel gets its name from). Is it perfect? Well, it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect luxury spa treatments or fancy restaurants, but honestly, that’s not what you come to Ballater for anyway. You come for the scenery, the walking, and that particular Scottish Highland atmosphere – and this place delivers on all of that while giving you a proper comfortable base to work from.
