Hilton Grand Vacations Club Craigendarroch Suites Scotland Overview
First Impressions
Honestly, when I first pulled up to Hilton Grand Vacations Club Craigendarroch Suites Scotland on Braemar Road, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from a three-star property in the Scottish Highlands. But you know what? Sometimes the most genuine experiences come from places that don’t try too hard to impress. The building sits comfortably against the backdrop of rolling hills, and there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole setup — it feels like a place where you can actually relax without worrying about whether you’re dressed appropriately for the lobby.
Location & Highland Charm
The location in Ballater is honestly brilliant, and I mean that in the most practical sense. You’re right in Royal Deeside, which locals will tell you is some of the most beautiful countryside in Scotland — and they’re not wrong. What I really appreciated was being able to walk into the village center easily, grab supplies, or just wander around without needing the car constantly. The fact that couples rate this spot so highly makes perfect sense when you’re watching the sunset over the Cairngorms from your window. There’s a golf course within walking distance too, which is handy if that’s your thing.
The Suites
Now, calling them suites isn’t just marketing speak — these are proper apartment-style accommodations with actual space to spread out. Each unit comes with a full kitchen, which turned out to be a game-changer for longer stays. I mean, you can only eat out so many nights in a row, right? The room layouts are thoughtfully designed, with separate living areas that actually feel separate. It’s not fancy in a flashy way, but everything works well and feels comfortable rather than cramped.
Amenities & Activities
The parking situation is refreshingly straightforward — free and on-site, which anyone who’s driven in Scotland will appreciate. There’s a tennis court if you’re feeling energetic, and the fitness center covers the basics without being overwhelming. What really stood out was how the facilities complement the Highland setting rather than trying to compete with it. The spa treatments available are perfect after a day of hiking or exploring the nearby castles — nothing too elaborate, just what you need to unwind properly.
Why Guests Love It
The breakfast deserves a mention — proper full Scottish with vegetarian options that don’t feel like an afterthought. But honestly, what keeps people coming back is the balance this place strikes between comfort and authenticity. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or celebrity chefs, but you get genuine Highland hospitality and a base that works brilliantly for exploring this part of Scotland. The restaurant serves solid, unpretentious food, and the staff actually seem to enjoy helping guests discover the area. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned, not because it’s trying to dazzle you, but because it just feels right.

Didn’t have breakfast would rather have had traditional room at lower price or breakfast included in price we paid
The building itself is impressive, set in beautiful grounds. Didn’t use any of the facilities.
Such a lovely hotel we had a perfect stay. Our suite was very spacious and so nice. The spa area is lovely, gym well equipped for a hotel and the staff were so lovely.
Staff are friendly and professional, rooms are excellent, location is great for anyone visiting Royal Dee. Balmoral is a 10mins drive, Ballater is a great small town with loads of interesting history and good local restaurants and cafes.
The location was outstanding with amazing views all around, very close to the wonderful Balmoral castle, and Ballater which is a lovely little town.
