HOTEL OVERVIEW
So I’ve actually stayed at the Hilton Sandestin a few times over the years, and honestly? It’s one of those places that just gets the Gulf Coast thing right. You know when you’re driving down 98 and you hit that stretch where the emerald water first comes into view – well, this resort sits right there on what’s probably some of the prettiest sand you’ll find in the Panhandle.
The thing about Sandestin is that it’s not technically Destin proper (locals will correct you on this), but you’re literally like ten minutes from the main drag if you want to hit up Harbor Walk or AJ’s for dinner. What I love about staying here though is that you don’t really need to leave – and I mean that in the best way possible. The beachfront is massive and way less crowded than the public beaches closer to town, especially if you walk east toward the jetties. The pools are actually impressive too, not just your standard hotel rectangle. There’s this lazy river that my kids could float in for hours, and the main pool has enough space that you’re not fighting for chairs even during spring break season.
The rooms themselves are solid – nothing groundbreaking, but they’ve clearly been updating them because everything feels fresh. I always request gulf-view if you can swing it because watching the sunrise over the water is honestly worth the extra cost. The balconies are decent sized too, which matters when you’re trying to dry out sandy towels and swimsuits. One thing though – if you’re a light sleeper, maybe avoid the rooms facing the golf course during tournament season because those early morning tee times can get noisy. The spa is legit good (I usually skip hotel spas but this one’s different), and the golf courses are championship level if that’s your thing. Even if you don’t play, the clubhouse has this great bar where you can grab drinks and watch the sunset without the beach crowds. Parking is free and easy, which seems obvious but you’d be surprised how many places along 30A will hit you with fees. The staff has always been genuinely helpful – not that overly scripted hotel politeness, but like they actually want you to have a good time. Check-in is usually smooth, though summer weekends can get a bit backed up around 4 PM when everyone’s arriving at once.
