Hotel Emisia Sapporo Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Emisia Sapporo? The sheer scale of the place – it’s honestly more like a small city than a hotel. I mean, when you’re standing in that soaring lobby looking up at what feels like endless floors above you, it’s pretty impressive. The thing is, most people don’t realize it’s actually connected to the Shin-Sapporo subway station, which sounds convenient but here’s the kicker – you can literally walk underground from the train platform straight into the hotel without stepping outside once. Trust me, when it’s February in Hokkaido and there’s three feet of snow, you’ll appreciate that more than any fancy amenity.
The location in Atsubetsu might seem a bit out of the way if you’re thinking downtown Sapporo, but honestly, it works in your favor. You’re right next to the Hokkaido Centennial Memorial Tower (that weird concrete thing that looks like a rocket), and the whole area has this quieter, more residential feel that I actually preferred to the hustle of Susukino. The rooms are properly spacious – not that cramped Tokyo hotel experience where you’re bumping into walls. I stayed on the 20th floor and the view stretches across the city to the mountains, especially gorgeous at sunset when the light hits the snow peaks just right. The bed was one of those firm Japanese-style setups that somehow manages to be incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom had one of those deep soaking tubs that’s perfect after a day of walking around in winter boots.
What really sets this place apart though is how it handles the practical stuff. The breakfast buffet is massive – I’m talking multiple stations with everything from proper Japanese rice and miso soup to Western options, plus they do this thing with local Hokkaido dairy products that’s genuinely worth getting up early for. The staff speaks decent English, which isn’t always a given outside central Sapporo, and they actually seem to know the neighborhood well enough to give you real recommendations. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the elevators can be slow during busy times (there are a lot of floors to service), and the Wi-Fi gets a bit spotty on the higher floors, but honestly, that’s nitpicking. For a five-star place, the pricing is surprisingly reasonable compared to downtown options, and when you factor in that subway connection – especially if you’re planning day trips to other parts of Hokkaido – it’s actually pretty smart positioning. Plus, there’s something satisfying about staying somewhere that feels substantial and established rather than trying-too-hard trendy.

The proximity to the subway made it easy to get to all attractions I wanted to go to. The hotel staff were courteous and attended to all my needs.
Excellent breakfast!
Friendly and helpful staff. Carried our bags to our room for us when we arrived late. Able to store our bags the next day while we went looking around. Location 2min walk from the Shin-Sapporo station and a 25min train into the city. Lots on offer...

Great location near the station, very friendly staff and wonderful breakfast
The room was a good size and very clean. Also the location is super convenient for getting the train into town. What could be improved: The onsen was an additional cost for hotel guests. I was hoping this would be inclusive especially for the high...
Nicely located next to shin sapporo station and shopping centres! Only half an hour from the sapporo centre! There was a good amount of space in the rooms as well!
What could be improved: Nothing really.
the room is spacious, clean and very comfy bed. location wise, since we are driving so it doesn't make a difference. It's within walking distance to restaurants though. The breakfast was stunning! I recommend to have the breakfast at the hotel if...
Very close to the train station
What could be improved: No cool air-conditioning. It was only heater. It was so warm inside.
The room was spacious enough for 4 of us. Close proximity to the train station and convenience stores.
