The hotel itself is one of those solid, no-nonsense places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not. Three stars, sure, but honestly the 8.2 rating makes sense when you factor in what you’re actually getting for the price point in hill station territory.

The thing about staying here is that you’re close enough to walk to Bryant Park (maybe 10 minutes if you don’t mind the uphill bits), but far enough from the lake area chaos that you can actually get some sleep. The staff – and I’m not just saying this – genuinely seem to know the area. Like, they’ll tell you which local restaurant does the best mutton curry or when the morning mist usually clears for better views. The rooms are clean and warm, which matters more than you’d think when that Kodai chill hits in the evenings. I actually appreciated that they have those thick blankets that feel lived-in rather than hotel-sterile, if that makes sense. The hot water situation is reliable too, though it takes a minute or two to get going – pretty standard for this altitude.

What really works about this place is the practical stuff that travel websites don’t always mention. Parking isn’t a nightmare (trust me, try finding a spot near Coaker’s Walk on a weekend), and the front desk doesn’t act like they’re doing you a favor when you ask questions. The location means you can walk to the main market area when you want that tourist experience, but retreat back to somewhere that feels more authentic. Honestly, if you’re looking for Instagram-perfect luxury, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want a decent base for exploring Kodai without paying resort prices – and you appreciate staying somewhere that feels connected to the actual town rather than floating above it – Hotel Kodai International delivers on that promise. Just don’t expect them to arrange helicopter tours or anything fancy like that.
