You know what? Hotel La Calma De Rita caught me off guard in the best way possible. I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to this place on Camino A Santa Rita, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star spot tucked away in Pirque. But there’s something genuinely peaceful about this little corner of the Maipo Valley that makes the name “La Calma” actually make sense.

The location is pretty brilliant if you think about it – you’re basically surrounded by some of Chile’s most famous vineyards (Santa Rita is literally right there), but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos of central Santiago. I mean, it’s about a 45-minute drive from the city center, which sounds far until you realize you’re waking up to actual birds chirping instead of traffic honking. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay comfortable, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that over-the-top hotel theater some places put on. The rooms are clean and honestly pretty cozy, though don’t expect luxury touches everywhere. What you get is solid comfort with this sort of rustic charm that feels intentional rather than budget-driven.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place – it’s perfectly positioned for wine country exploring without feeling like you’re staying at a tourist trap. You can walk to some seriously good local spots that most visitors never discover, and the hotel actually feels connected to the community rather than isolated from it. The breakfast is simple but uses local ingredients (the bread alone is worth getting up for), and the common areas have this lived-in feel where you actually want to hang out with a book or glass of wine. Sure, the 7.3 rating might not scream “luxury getaway,” but sometimes you want a place that feels real instead of Instagram-perfect. The WiFi works fine, there’s decent parking – honestly, all the practical stuff just works without drama. If you’re planning to spend your days exploring the valley’s wineries and just need a comfortable, authentic base that won’t break the bank, this place delivers exactly what it promises. Plus, there’s something really satisfying about discovering a spot that feels like a local secret rather than another cookie-cutter hotel experience.

This is a very unique, eclectic property with Cottages that mimic Hippie Caravans and wine barrels. The grounds are sprawling with a pool, open air bar and restaurant and optional spa, hot tubs, etc. The owner and his staff were very helpful as we don't speak the language. This is a very unique, eclectic property with Cottages that mimic Hippie Caravans and wine barrels. The grounds are sprawling with a pool, open air bar and restaurant and optional spa, hot tubs, etc.
The owner and his staff were very helpful as we don't speak the language.
There are resident dogs on the property that are very affectionate, but the beagle is quite vocal (barking).
The bed was very comfortable in our cottage and we really enjoyed our stay.

What could be improved: At times, the barking of the beagle was problematic, and she caused us to relocate to our cottage from the pool area.

It was a unique property

What could be improved: Food was not good. Could not eat our first meal we had when we arrived and did not eat the food again after that. Cleanliness could have been better. Staff were nice but not always around to help out. Also overcharged us for our stay which we have not been able to recover.

The hot tub was new for us and it's good. It's located outside and over the room, in a little place but good enough for a little table, 2 chairs and a deck chair. An easy to use control panel fit perfectly.

What could be improved: There were several details which ruined a good experience. First: we realized late during the evening there was not shampoo or soap to take a shower. It was impossible to find a person at the front desk neither on the cell phone indicated. So we could only contact someone from the hotel just for the breakfast time, which was indicated to be served at 10 am (too late if you want to get out early in the morning). At 10 am was none table ready to be used, so we could have breakfast just around 10:40 and after that we can get the soap and shampoo, so finally we got showered around noon, the time when we had to leave the room, so we wasted all the morning because these kind of details.
