Hotel New Otani Makuhari Overview
You know what hits you first at the Hotel New Otani Makuhari? It’s not the lobby (though that’s pretty impressive) – it’s actually how quiet everything is despite being right in the heart of Chiba’s business district. I mean, you’re literally surrounded by the Makuhari Messe convention center and all these corporate towers, but somehow the hotel manages to feel like this calm oasis. The building itself is this sleek tower that honestly looks more like a fancy office building from the outside, but don’t let that fool you.
The location is sort of perfect if you think about it – you’re about 30 minutes from central Tokyo by train, but you get all this space and none of the chaos. Hibino district isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot, which actually works in your favor because you’re not fighting crowds for dinner reservations or dealing with tour groups clogging up the elevators. The JR Keiyo Line stops right at Kaihimmakuhari Station, maybe a 10-minute walk away, and from there you can shoot straight into Tokyo Station. Plus there’s this whole waterfront area nearby that most visitors never discover – great for morning runs if you’re into that.
What really sets this place apart though is how they handle the details. The rooms are properly spacious by Japanese standards (and I mean actually spacious, not just “for Japan” spacious), and the beds are these firm mattresses that somehow don’t leave you feeling like you slept on concrete. The bathrooms have those deep Japanese tubs that you can actually soak in, which is clutch after walking around Tokyo all day. Honestly, the staff here seems to anticipate what you need before you even ask – I had my phone charger delivered to my room within 15 minutes of mentioning it at the front desk. Check-in was smooth even during what appeared to be some big pharmaceutical conference happening at the Messe.
The restaurant situation is solid without being flashy – there’s this teppanyaki place on one of the upper floors with views over Tokyo Bay that locals actually use for special occasions, not just hotel guests. Room service runs late too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with jet lag. One small thing that bugged me was the air conditioning – it’s powerful but kind of loud, so light sleepers might want to pack earplugs. Also, while the hotel has parking, it fills up fast during convention season, so definitely reserve ahead if you’re driving.
The 8.4 rating makes sense when you stay here – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Tokyo, but everything just works the way it should. You get that five-star service level without the pretension, and you’re positioned perfectly for both business stuff at Makuhari and tourist adventures in the city. Plus there’s something refreshing about ending your day somewhere that feels genuinely relaxing instead of just expensive, you know?
Guest Reviews
Like the location of the hotel as this was close to the Makuhari messe and had a connecting walkway which worked well for us.
Very short to Makuhari Fair
What could be improved: It is far away from Tokio
Great room that were generously sized, especially the bed.
What could be improved: The pool is a separate cost which i expected. However the sheer number of additional costs was baffling when the accommodation costs are considered.
Wonderful selection of breakfast, mix of Japanese, other Asian and Western. Good spread and very good service. Rooms are well-appointed and sea views are amazing. What could be improved: Perhaps housekeeping was a little too eager to get us out of...
nice service, clean and comfortable.
What could be improved: It would be better to have a USB port.
I had an exhibition to attend in the Makuhari Messe. This hotel has a walking bridge (covered!) directly to that venue, so that was a no-brainer. My coworkers and business relations stayed in hotels next door or behind (APA, Francs). The New Otani is...
Breakfast was eclectic and plentiful. Location great for the Makuhari messe, with simple walking access to the station and many local dining establishments, bars and shops. Hotel bus to and from both airports is convenient and cheap. Rooms a good...
for activities at the Messe the hotel is perfectly located. Top floor bar/lounge was very nice and had good views and breakfast was decent What could be improved: interior is a bit dated, beds and pillows could use a refresh—they were fine but not...
The staff was excellent. The room was beautiful. The View was exquisite. The Internet was insanely fast. I needed to drop off my luggage as soon as I got there and they gave me the application for the check-in. When I got there, they'd already taken...
Breakfast was more than adequate and very enjoyable.
Location is easy to find and has nice views out the windows.
What could be improved: Nothing stood out as lacking during my stay.
