HOTEL OVERVIEW

You know what hit me first about the Hotel New Otani Tokyo EXECUTIVE HOUSE ZEN? The name sounds like they threw every fancy hotel word into a blender, but honestly – this place actually lives up to the hype. I mean, we’re talking about a 5-star property that sits right in Kioicho, which if you know Tokyo at all, is this incredibly quiet pocket in Chiyoda where politicians and business executives actually live. It’s like finding a serene bubble just minutes from the Imperial Palace, and trust me, that’s no small feat in a city this dense.

The moment you walk into the Executive House section (which is basically the hotel within the hotel concept), there’s this immediate shift in energy. The main New Otani can feel a bit sprawling and conference-heavy – you’ll see lots of suited businesspeople rushing around – but the ZEN floors have this almost meditative quality that I wasn’t expecting. The staff here genuinely seem to know what they’re doing, not just going through motions, and the check-in process was refreshingly smooth even during what looked like a busy period. What really got me though was stepping out onto the upper floors and seeing those traditional Japanese gardens spread out below. I’d heard about the 10-acre gardens but seeing them from above, especially in the early morning when the mist kind of hangs over the koi ponds – it’s pretty spectacular.

Here’s the thing about staying here: you’re literally a 5-minute walk from Akasaka-mitsuke Station, which connects you to half of Tokyo, but the neighborhood itself feels almost residential. I could actually hear birds in the morning instead of constant traffic, which in central Tokyo is honestly kind of miraculous. The rooms themselves lean heavily into that whole Japanese minimalism thing, but it works – clean lines, those incredible deep soaking tubs, and windows that actually open (surprisingly rare in Tokyo hotels). Sure, it’s pricey, but when you factor in that you’re getting genuine tranquility in one of the world’s busiest cities, plus you can walk to the Diet Building or catch a taxi to Ginza in under 10 minutes, it starts to make sense. The 9.0 rating isn’t just numbers – this is one of those places where the details actually matter, from the way they fold your towels to the fact that the elevators run whisper-quiet even during busy hours.

Fantastic hotel, staff are amazing so helpful nothing is too much trouble.

Must say the Lady Manager was exceptional in her making us feel welcome and explaining all the alternatives to us due to the fact that we were not able to use the Lounge per our booked preferred room. Very nice service in the Garden Tower 40F breakfast time; also had a shabu-shabu lunch -- again the lady serving us...

All in all, it has been very nice staying the Executive House Zen.

What could be improved: Nothing really. Everything was just perfect. Price of course may seem high but that is to be expected for such a fine room and service. Wish we had a chance to try out the Lounge. Maybe next time!

What could be improved: The room we booked was very small and not a lot of privacy. If you are sharing a room with a friend, make sure you’re super comfortable with one another because there is no privacy in bathroom or shower. The staff and location is great. Very swanky hotel.

Luggage team were good. What could be improved: Poor air conditioning - after spending the day in 36 degree summer heat, we would of liked a cool room. The air...

Executive lounge was nice, with great views of the Tokyo skyline.

Luggage team were good.

What could be improved: Poor air conditioning - after spending the day in 36 degree summer heat, we would of liked a cool room. The air conditioning was poor - not what you would expect in a GBP750 per night room. I think we may have been given an older room. No offer of an upgrade, which seem to be given out freely for some people at check-in. This led to poor sleep.

No plug at one side of the bed. No USB, USB-C sockets. Again basic stuff for a 5 star hotel.

Dated electronics, no smart tv.

Not worth the price paid. We stayed at other 5 star hotels in a Japan for significantly less, that offered significantly more.

Not asked at checkout how our stay went. We raised the issues above during the stay, so did give the hotel and opportunity to rectify.

何も言う事ないくらい、素晴らしい滞在をさせていただきました。
お食事もゆったりと静かな雰囲気で落ち着いて食べる事が出来ました。スタッフの方もみなさん、ホスピタリティも完璧。あくせくする事なく、落ち着いた対応で、安心して相談する事も出来ました。
結婚記念で滞在しましたが最高でした。
また、機会があれば利用したいですし、両親にもプレゼントしたいと思いました。
