Hotel Shigira Mirage Overview
Okay, so Hotel Shigira Mirage – I’ll be honest, when I first pulled up to this place in Ueno, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. The name sounds a bit dramatic, right? But honestly, once you’re there overlooking the coastline, you sort of get it. This isn’t your typical Okinawan resort where you’re crammed in with tour groups from mainland Japan. The Shigira area on Miyako Island feels more… I don’t know, intentional? Like someone actually thought about how to make a luxury property that doesn’t completely overwhelm the landscape.
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve handled the whole “5-star” thing without being stuffy about it. You know what I mean – some high-end hotels make you feel like you need to whisper in the lobby. Here, you can walk around in your resort wear without anyone giving you looks, but the service is still incredibly polished. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, which honestly surprised me. And the location – well, you’re basically right on one of those stretches of Miyako coastline that makes you understand why people lose their minds over this island. The water clarity is almost ridiculous, especially in the morning before the day-trippers show up from Hirara port.
The rooms themselves feel more like private retreats than hotel accommodations. Floor-to-ceiling windows that actually open (thank god), and most overlook either the ocean or the golf course – though honestly, go for ocean if you can swing it. The bathrooms are where they really went all out, with these deep soaking tubs and separate rain showers that use some kind of mineral water system. I mean, it sounds gimmicky until you try it. One thing to note though – if you’re planning to explore the island much, you’ll definitely want a rental car. The hotel has this shuttle to their beach club and golf course, but for hitting up spots like Sunayama Beach or driving out to Higashi-Hennazaki lighthouse, you’re kind of stuck without wheels. Check-in was smooth, parking is free and easy, and the whole property stays surprisingly quiet even during Golden Week – I think because it’s just big enough to spread people out but not so massive that it feels impersonal. That 8.8 rating makes sense to me; it’s genuinely excellent without being perfect, if that makes sense.

I enjoyed staying at Shigira, the service was great, the room condition was perfect. All the staffs were so kind, especially the English staff(so sorry that I forgot the name) helped us book dinners for the whole stay and upgrade our room to ocean...

What could be improved: No shuttle was available for the last flight on arrival at the airport had to use taxi
The room is so nice that it's out of my expectation. Very big, pleasant, clean and with good seaview. Had champaign, BBQ scallops and tiger prawns for breakfast. Overall, money was well spent and I should have booked one more night.

직원분들이 식당 예약도 도와주시고, 전반적으로 안내해주시려는 의지가 보였습니다. 한국어를 하시는 분이 계시지는 않았으나 영어와 일본어로 친절하게 대해주셨습니다.
What could be improved: 수영장은 11월까지만 운영한다고 하니, 미야코지마 여행을 계획중이신 분들은 참고하셨으면 합니다. 이런 정보가 부족했었네요 아무래도.
