Icon Hotel

Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in Santiago, and the Icon on Alonso de Córdova really surprised me – in the best way possible. First thing you notice is how it sits right in the heart of Las Condes, which honestly is where you want to be if you’re doing business or just want to feel like you’re in the “real” modern Santiago. I mean, you’re literally walking distance from Parque Araucano (great for morning runs, by the way) and all those fancy restaurants along Isidora Goyenechea that locals actually go to, not just tourists.

What I loved about this place is that it feels like a proper 4-star without trying too hard to be something it’s not. The lobby has this clean, contemporary vibe – sort of minimalist but warm, you know? And the staff… well, they actually seem to know the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to Providencia without dealing with rush hour traffic, the front desk guy gave me this whole route that saved me probably 20 minutes. That’s the kind of local knowledge you don’t get at those big chain places. The rooms are solid – nothing groundbreaking, but the beds are legitimately comfortable and the AC works properly, which trust me, matters during Santiago’s summer months. I stayed on the seventh floor and honestly, the city views at sunset were pretty spectacular, especially looking toward the Andes when they’re not hidden behind smog.

Here’s what really sold me though: the location is just smart. You’re close enough to the metro (Tobalaba station is maybe a 10-minute walk) but far enough from the main drag that you’re not hearing traffic all night. Plus – and this might sound silly – but parking was actually reasonable, which if you’ve ever tried to park in Las Condes, you’ll understand why that matters. The whole Alonso de Córdova strip has this energy during the day with all the office buildings, but it calms down nicely in the evenings. I found myself walking to dinner most nights because there’s just so much within a few blocks. That 8.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Santiago, but it nails the fundamentals and the location really can’t be beat if you want to experience the city like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through.
