InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8 by IHG Overview
You know what hit me first walking into the InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8? The lobby actually feels like you’re on a luxury cruise ship – which makes perfect sense when you realize you’re literally sitting on a pier jutting into Yokohama Bay. I mean, the water is right there beneath you, and on clear days you can watch the ferries heading to Minato Mirai while sipping coffee in the lobby lounge.
The location is honestly brilliant if you know Yokohama at all. You’re in Shinko, which most tourists skip, but it’s this quiet pocket right between the action of Minato Mirai and the old-school charm of Kannai. The Red Brick Warehouse is maybe a five-minute walk – perfect for those weekend craft markets – and you can actually walk to Chinatown in about fifteen minutes if you don’t mind the stroll. What I really love though is how removed you feel from the city chaos. At night, when the Cosmo World ferris wheel lights up across the water, you get these incredible views that feel almost private. The rooms facing the bay (and honestly, splurge for these if you can) have floor-to-ceiling windows where you can watch the harbor come alive in the morning with all the commercial traffic heading out.
The service has that InterContinental polish, but with a distinctly Japanese attention to detail that goes beyond what you’d expect. Check-in was seamless even when I arrived early, and the concierge team actually knows the neighborhood – they pointed me toward this tiny yakitori place in Noge that I never would’ve found otherwise. The gym stays surprisingly uncrowded even during peak hours, probably because most guests are out exploring, and the spa (well, it’s more of a treatment room setup) books up fast so reserve ahead. One small thing – the elevator situation can get a bit slow during busy periods since it’s a tall, narrow building, but that’s pretty typical for waterfront hotels in Japan. The restaurant scene is solid without being groundbreaking, though their breakfast spread includes some nice local touches alongside the international options. But honestly, with Yokohama’s incredible food scene right outside your door, you’ll probably want to venture out anyway. This place works best when you think of it as your peaceful harbor retreat – literally – after days spent wandering through the city’s markets, temples, and that amazing ramen museum in Shin-Yokohama.

Perfect for a weekend getaway from Tokyo, loved the location, everything accessible - the cup noodle museum, red brick warehouse all mere minutes away, clean great - bathroom divine
Excellent location Beautiful room but the staff were absolutely outstanding
What could be improved: A little on the expensive side
Easily the best room in Yokohama. And for the price, if you are willing to stay outside of Tokyo, you'll get a massive room at a fraction of the price. I've stayed here 3x now and will return. We love this location and property when taking a visit to...
Staff were professional and service oriented. Rooms were generous and many items in the mini bar were complimentary. What could be improved: Location is not great if you are going to be using the train station a lot. Not many things in vicinity but...
Location and size or room
New, modern with elegant design, very comfortable, friendly staff,Overall this hotel is 5 stars and worth the money.
Breakfast was fantastic and the restaurants in the shopping centre are very good.
Attentive staff and excellent rooms.
It was very near the Diamond Princess, the ship we were going to cruise on.
I felt pampered and at home. Quiet, great location, and few was amazing.
What could be improved: the dinner choice Hamberger, the meat was "too fancy" and fell apart while eating.
