HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of resorts in the Keys, and Isla Bella actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. First off, the location at MM47 in Marathon is kind of perfect – you’re far enough from the Key Largo tourist madness but not so far down that you feel isolated. The property sits right on the water at Knights Key, and honestly, the views from most rooms are legitimately stunning. I mean, you’re looking out at this endless stretch of turquoise that changes color throughout the day.
What really impressed me was how they designed the place to feel authentically Keys without going overboard on the whole “tropical paradise” theme that can feel so forced. The buildings have this low-key elegance – sort of modern but with enough weathered charm that it doesn’t scream “brand new resort.” The pools (there are several) actually complement the natural setting instead of competing with it, and the main infinity pool has this view that’ll make you forget to check your phone for hours. The spa is tucked away nicely too – I stumbled across it by accident on my second day and ended up booking a massage that was honestly one of the better ones I’ve had.
Here’s the thing about Marathon that a lot of people don’t realize – it’s got this laid-back vibe that’s different from the party scene up in Key Largo or the boutique hotel energy down in Key West. Isla Bella captures that perfectly. The restaurants on property are solid (the seafood is obviously fresh, and they don’t overcharge too badly), but you’re also close enough to some local spots if you want to venture out. Parking is easy, which sounds boring but trust me, matters a lot in the Keys. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving after 4 PM if possible – the afternoon light hitting the water when you first walk in is something else. The staff genuinely seems to know the area well, not just the resort spiel. One guy at the concierge desk gave me directions to this little sandbar that I never would have found otherwise. It’s a 5-star place with an 8.7 rating, which feels about right – luxurious enough to justify the price but not so polished that you feel like you can’t relax and actually enjoy the Keys the way they’re meant to be enjoyed.

Beautiful resort on its own coastline, with lots of activities and good restaurant options. We did paddle boarding (including sharks and manatees), parasailing, jetski in just a couple of nights, as well as enjoying the pool.
