This 5-star resort sits right on the water at mile marker 47, and I mean literally right on the water (you can hear the waves from most rooms, which is either perfect or slightly distracting if you’re a light sleeper).

The property itself is gorgeous – think modern Florida Keys architecture without the tacky tourist trap vibe you get at some places down here. Each room has this clean, beachy feel with floor-to-ceiling windows that actually open, which is rarer than you’d think these days. The suites and apartments are spacious, and if you spring for one with a kitchenette, you’ll appreciate having real counter space and a proper fridge – perfect for storing those key lime treats you’ll inevitably buy at the local spots. Staff here is genuinely friendly without being overly rehearsed, and check-in was smooth even during what seemed like a busy weekend.

Well, let’s talk about the good stuff – the spa is absolutely worth it, especially if you book treatments in the late afternoon when it’s quieter. The hotel restaurant serves solid food (the grouper is fantastic), though I’d honestly recommend driving a few minutes to some of the local joints on Overseas Highway for a more authentic Keys experience. Parking is included and there’s plenty of it, which is a relief since you’ll definitely want a car to explore – Sombrero Beach is just a short drive north and it’s one of the best beaches in the middle Keys. The resort’s own beach area is nice but can get crowded, and the sand isn’t quite as soft as you might expect (more packed coral than powdery white). Mornings are absolutely perfect here though – grab coffee and walk the grounds before 8 AM when it’s still cool and quiet. The only real downside? It’s pricey, even for the Keys, and the resort fee adds up quickly if you’re not careful about what services you actually use.
