Izu Imaihama Tokyu Hotel Overview

You know what struck me first about the Izu Imaihama Tokyu Hotel? It’s actually perched right where you want to be on the Izu Peninsula – close enough to hear the waves from Imaihama Beach but tucked back just enough that you’re not dealing with the constant foot traffic. I mean, when you’re driving down Route 135 and turn into Midaka, you sort of feel like you’re discovering something that’s been quietly doing its thing without all the tourist circus you get at some of the bigger resort towns.

The hotel itself has this understated elegance that honestly feels more genuine than flashy. The lobby’s got these floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the coastline perfectly, and I noticed they keep fresh seasonal flowers – not the generic hotel arrangements, but actual local blooms that change throughout the year. Check-in was smooth (they actually remembered I’d called about late arrival), and the staff has this relaxed professionalism that makes sense for a 4-star place that’s not trying too hard. The rooms are spacious by Japanese standards, and here’s the thing – if you snag one facing the ocean, you’ll wake up to this incredible view of Sagami Bay stretching toward the Izu Islands. On clear days, you can actually make out Oshima Island in the distance.

What really sets this place apart though is how it connects you to the whole Kawazu experience without overwhelming you. The hotel’s walking distance to some stellar onsen spots – there’s this little public bath called Imaihama Onsen just down the hill that locals use, which gives you a completely different vibe than the hotel’s own facilities. And if you’re here during cherry blossom season (late February through early March, which is ridiculously early compared to Tokyo), you’re perfectly positioned for the famous Kawazu Zakura festival without being stuck in the absolute madness of staying right in Kawazu town center. The hotel restaurant does solid kaiseki dinners featuring local Izu seafood – the kinmedai (golden eye snapper) is particularly good here since you’re right in its prime territory. Parking is included and actually generous, which matters if you’re doing the smart thing and renting a car to explore the peninsula’s hidden beaches and mountain trails. I’ll be honest, it’s not the cheapest option in the area, but that 8.5 rating makes sense when you consider you’re getting genuine resort-level comfort with easy access to both the rugged coastline and the interior hot spring towns that make Izu special.

Find perfect healing places to stay where every aspect of your accommodation is designed to support wellness, from organic dining options to tranquil environments that promote rest and restoration.

This was a wonderful hotel and I would go back in a flash. It is right on the beach. We were there in February so the pool was closed but the onsen was open. Went there in the morning and last thing in the evening. The rooms are nice and big. Try and get a seaside facing room to enjoy the beach and the rising sun. The staff were friendly. All in all a great experience. Also there is a free shuttle bus to Kawazu town but there is also a train station near the hotel.

What could be improved: The bar was closed but that was because it was the off-season. There are vending machines and a shop selling beer and snacks.

Lovely staff, beach, onsen, shuttle,sunrise!

What could be improved: You are kind of forced to eat their restaurant food because of location and transport.
Also, there was someone smoking upstream from my hvac supply!

Very nice hotel overall. Friendly staff, clean room, well equipped room with comfortable bed. Good facilities including sauna and hot spring bath. Free shuttle going in and from Kawazu station regularly.

What could be improved: Unless you're coming in during summer to stay at the beach, the location can be somewhat incovenient, as there is nothing much nearby in terms of entertainment or stores. Due to this, the expensive breakfast options are a minus for me. However, especially during Sakura season, the ~10-15 minute walk to Kawazu can be very pleasant if you're up for it.

So glad we chose this hotel right on the sea. It has a lovely Hawaiian vibe, tastefully decorated. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need, with a view over the ocean. A shuttle bus runs regularly to take you to Kawazu's local amenities.
