It’s about a 10-minute walk into town center where you can grab a proper coffee at Beachcomber or stock up on supplies before heading to Ninety Mile Beach – though honestly, most people just drive everywhere up here anyway. The staff seem to know their stuff about local attractions too, which is handy when you’re trying to figure out tide times for the beach or whether the road to the lighthouse is passable. For a 3-star place, it punches above its weight – that 8.1 rating makes sense when you consider it’s doing exactly what it promises without any pretense. Sure, the decor isn’t going to win any awards and you might hear your neighbors if they’re being particularly enthusiastic, but it’s clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. If you’re looking for a reliable base to explore New Zealand’s northernmost reaches without breaking the bank, this place delivers.
