La Grace Resort

You know what caught me off guard about La Grace Resort? It’s tucked away in this quiet pocket of Vaswaddo that most tourists completely miss – and honestly, that’s probably its biggest selling point. I mean, everyone rushes straight to the main Benaulim beach strip, but this place sits back from all that chaos, which means you actually get to sleep at night without hearing scooters revving until 2 AM.

The resort itself is… well, it’s solidly three-star, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. Sometimes you just want a place that does the basics really well without trying to be something it’s not. The rooms are clean and comfortable (though the AC takes a good twenty minutes to really kick in – just so you know), and there’s this nice courtyard area where you can actually have a conversation without shouting over poolside music. What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area. When I asked about getting to Colva without dealing with the tourist taxi rates, the front desk guy – Rohan, I think his name was – drew me this little map showing the local bus stops and even mentioned which drivers speak decent English. That kind of local insight is worth its weight in gold.

The location really grew on me the longer I stayed. Sure, you’re about a fifteen-minute walk to the main beach action, but that walk takes you through actual Goan neighborhoods where kids are playing cricket in the streets and you can smell whatever’s cooking for dinner in people’s homes. There’s this little bakery – can’t remember the name but it’s painted bright yellow – about halfway to the beach where they make these incredible pork rolls for breakfast. The resort’s restaurant is fine for dinner (their fish curry is actually pretty authentic), but honestly, being able to wander into the village for meals made the whole experience feel less touristy. One thing though – if you’re planning to visit during peak season, book way ahead. I was there in November and the place was nearly full, plus the rates jump quite a bit during the Christmas-New Year rush. But if you can swing the shoulder season, you’ll have more space to breathe and the staff has more time to chat about hidden spots worth exploring.
