La Quinta Resort & Club, Curio Collection Overview
First Impressions
Honestly, when I first pulled up to La Quinta Resort & Club, Curio Collection, I wasn’t expecting much — the name sounds like it could be another chain property, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Santa Rosa Mountains in La Quinta, this four-star resort has this old-school desert charm that feels both relaxed and refined. The Spanish colonial architecture with its red tile roofs and adobe walls fits perfectly into the Coachella Valley landscape, and there’s something about the way the property sprawls across 45 acres that makes it feel like a proper retreat rather than just another hotel.
The Desert Oasis Experience
What really sets this place apart is how it embraces its desert setting without trying too hard to be something it’s not. The grounds are dotted with citrus groves and date palms — I mean, you’re literally staying in what used to be agricultural land, which gives the whole experience this authentic California desert vibe. The pools (there are several) are positioned to take advantage of those mountain views, and honestly, floating there at sunset with a drink in hand is pretty much perfection. The tennis courts and fitness center are solid, but the real draw is the golf — you’ve got multiple courses within walking distance, including the famous PGA West just down the road.
Accommodations That Actually Deliver
My room was in one of the casitas, and I have to say, the beds here really do live up to the hype — I slept better than I have in months. The accommodations range from standard hotel rooms to spacious suites, many with fireplaces and private patios that open right onto the grounds. The decor leans into that Southwest aesthetic without going overboard, and the bathrooms are well-appointed with deep soaking tubs that are perfect after a day on the golf course. What I appreciated most was the attention to comfort — quality linens, blackout curtains that actually work, and air conditioning that keeps things perfectly cool even when it’s blazing outside.
Dining and Daily Rhythms
The breakfast situation here is actually pretty impressive — they’ve got everything from classic American fare to vegetarian and gluten-free options, plus you can grab something to go if you’re heading out early for golf or hiking. The main restaurant serves solid California cuisine with a focus on fresh, local ingredients, though honestly, the real treat is dining on the terrace as the sun sets behind the mountains. Parking is available right on site, which might seem like a small thing but trust me, it matters when you’re coming and going for activities or exploring the valley.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the flashiest resort in the desert, but that’s exactly why it works so well. Couples especially seem to love the peaceful vibe and those mountain views — I can see why they rate the location so highly. It’s close enough to Palm Springs and the other desert cities that you can explore, but far enough away that you feel like you’re actually escaping. The staff knows the area well and can point you toward the best hiking trails or recommend which golf courses are worth your time. It’s the kind of place where you can genuinely unwind without feeling like you’re missing out on anything.

The room was gorgeous- the staff at Morgan’s bar were the best part of the trip. Your front of house staff weren’t that friendly
