The thing about staying at Kannonzaki is that you’re kind of removed from everything – which is either perfect or problematic depending on what you’re after. It’s about a 15-minute drive from Uraga Station, and while there’s a shuttle bus, I’d honestly recommend having a car if you want to explore. But here’s the thing – once you settle in, you sort of don’t want to leave. The rooms (well, at least the ones facing the bay) have these massive windows, and if you time it right during sunset, it’s pretty spectacular. The Kannonzaki Lighthouse is literally a five-minute walk away, and there’s something really peaceful about wandering around those coastal paths in the evening when most of the day-trippers have cleared out.

What surprised me was how the hotel manages to feel both modern and understated – it’s not trying to be some flashy resort, but the rooms are actually quite well-appointed. The onsen area is probably the real draw here, especially the outdoor baths where you can soak while watching ships navigate the bay. I mean, you’re seeing everything from fishing boats to massive cargo vessels heading into Tokyo Port. The breakfast was better than I expected too – they do this nice mix of Western and Japanese options, and you can eat while watching the morning ferry traffic. Fair warning though: weekends get pretty busy with families from Tokyo, and the elevator situation can be a bit slow during peak times. Also, if you’re hoping for a bustling nightlife scene, this isn’t your spot – Hashirimizu is pretty quiet after dark, which is honestly part of its charm. The staff speak decent English, check-in was smooth, and parking is free, which you’ll appreciate since pretty much everything interesting around here requires a bit of driving. It’s one of those places where you go to actually disconnect for a bit, watch the ocean, and remember that Tokyo’s craziness is just across the water but feels like a different planet entirely.
