Magic Robin Hood Overview
First Impressions
You know what caught me off guard about Magic Robin Hood? The name makes it sound like some cheesy theme park hotel, but honestly, this four-star property in Albir is actually quite sophisticated. Set along the Camino Viejo de Altea, it sits in this perfect sweet spot where you’re close enough to the Mediterranean coast to catch sea breezes, but far enough inland to avoid the tourist chaos that plagues other Costa Blanca destinations. The building itself has this understated elegance — I mean, it’s not trying too hard to impress, which I actually appreciated.
The Accommodations
My room faced the mountains, and I’ll be honest — I initially thought I’d prefer a sea view, but those sunrise moments over the Sierra Helada were pretty spectacular. The space felt generous without being cavernous, with that clean Mediterranean aesthetic that doesn’t scream “hotel chain.” What really worked for me was the attention to comfort details — blackout curtains that actually worked, a shower with proper water pressure, and air conditioning that didn’t sound like a freight train. The balcony became my morning coffee spot, and you could hear birds instead of traffic, which is rarer than you’d think along this coast.
Location and Surroundings
Albir itself is this gem that somehow stays under the radar compared to Benidorm or Calpe. The hotel’s position gives you easy access to the Albir lighthouse walk — honestly one of the most underrated coastal hikes in Spain — and you’re a short drive from Altea’s old town with its blue-domed church and winding streets. I loved that there’s free parking on-site because, let’s face it, finding a spot along this coastline during peak season can be a nightmare. The beach is about a ten-minute walk, and it’s the kind of pebble-and-sand mix that stays cleaner than the purely sandy beaches nearby.
Facilities and Activities
The tennis court surprised me — it’s well-maintained and gets good morning light if you’re an early player like I am. The fitness center isn’t huge, but it has the essentials and stays cool even during those brutal August afternoons. What I didn’t expect was how much I’d use the game room; there’s something oddly relaxing about a quiet evening of billiards after a day of exploring. The spa treatments lean toward the therapeutic rather than purely indulgent, which fits the area’s growing reputation as a wellness destination. I tried their signature massage, and the therapist actually knew what she was doing — not always a given at hotel spas.
Why Guests Love It
This place gets couples, and I can see why — it strikes that balance between having enough to do without being overwhelming. The restaurant serves solid Mediterranean fare with local ingredients, and the terrace dining feels intimate rather than institutional. Staff members seem to genuinely know the area; when I asked about hiking trails, the concierge pulled out a hand-drawn map with his personal recommendations. It’s the kind of place where you can disappear for a few days without feeling like you’re missing out on anything important, which is exactly what a good retreat should offer.
