Look, I’ll be straight with you about Mariners Bay Resort – it’s one of those places that sounds amazing on paper but lands somewhere in the middle when you actually show up. The location near Bhagwati Temple in Mandrem is honestly pretty sweet, especially if you’re trying to escape the absolute chaos of Calangute or Baga. Mandrem still has that laid-back North Goa vibe that’s getting harder to find these days.

The thing about this place is that it’s technically a 5-star property, but you know how Indian hotel ratings can be… well, let’s say generous sometimes. Don’t get me wrong – the rooms are decent enough, and the property itself is actually quite spacious with these nice tropical gardens that make you forget you’re basically in a tourist area. The staff tries hard, which I appreciate, though there were definitely moments during my stay where things felt a bit disorganized (like when room service took forever because they couldn’t find our villa). The pool area is probably the highlight – it’s got this really peaceful feeling in the mornings before everyone wakes up, and you can hear the temple bells from Bhagwati in the distance, which is either charming or annoying depending on how early you want to sleep in.

What I really liked was how close you are to Mandrem Beach without being right in the thick of the beach shack madness. It’s maybe a 10-minute walk through some local streets where you’ll pass actual Goan houses and maybe a few cows – that authentic stuff that makes Goa special. The resort runs a shuttle to the beach, but honestly, the walk is half the fun. You’re also pretty close to Arambol if you want to venture north for that hippie market scene, and Ashwem Beach is right there too with some genuinely good seafood spots that aren’t total tourist traps. I mean, the resort’s restaurant is fine, but why eat hotel food when you’re in Goa, right? The breakfast spread was actually better than I expected though – they do a proper South Indian selection alongside the usual continental stuff. Just don’t expect everything to be perfectly hot or replenished super quickly. It’s got that relaxed Goan pace, which can be either refreshing or frustrating depending on your mood and how hungry you are.
