HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what actually surprised me about the Marriott at Grande Dunes? It’s one of those places that manages to feel both sprawling and intimate at the same time. I mean, this is definitely a big resort – you’re looking at multiple towers and honestly, you’ll do some walking – but somehow it doesn’t have that impersonal mega-hotel vibe that makes you feel like cattle being herded around. The whole property sits right where the Intracoastal Waterway meets the ocean, so you get these killer views from most rooms, especially if you snag something on the higher floors facing east.
The location is actually pretty smart when you think about it. Costa Verde Drive keeps you just far enough from the chaos of Ocean Boulevard (thank god, because that strip can be… a lot) but you’re still close enough to hit Barefoot Landing or Broadway at the Beach without dealing with beach traffic. The spa here is legit – I’m talking about the kind of place where they don’t rush you through treatments and the relaxation room actually makes you want to relax instead of checking your phone. Their pool setup is honestly one of the better ones I’ve seen in Myrtle Beach, with this lazy river that’s long enough to actually be fun and multiple pools so you’re not fighting families with screaming kids if that’s not your scene. Well, unless you visit during bike week or spring break – then all bets are off.
What really sets this place apart though is the golf situation. The Grande Dunes course is right there, and I mean literally right there – you can see golfers from some of the rooms. It’s Robert Trent Jones design, so if you’re into that sort of thing, you’ll be happy. Even if you’re not a golfer, the course keeps the property feeling more upscale and less… I don’t know, less like every other beachfront hotel where you’re stepping over beer cans in the elevator. The restaurants are actually decent too, which honestly surprised me because resort food can be such a gamble. Their oceanfront dining spot does this shrimp and grits that’s better than it has any right to be. Parking is valet or self-park – the self-park garage is huge but you might end up walking a bit depending on where they stick you. Check-in can get backed up during summer weekends, but the staff generally knows what they’re doing. The rooms themselves feel fresh and updated, not like they’re still stuck in 2005 like some places around here. Just know that if you’re booking during peak season, you’re going to pay for all this niceness – but honestly, for a special trip or if you want to feel properly pampered while dealing with Myrtle Beach’s summer insanity, it’s worth the splurge.
