Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Seawood Hotel on Kurima Island – I mean, it’s this tiny speck connected to Miyako by a bridge that feels like it goes on forever. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you’re not trying too hard to find them.
The hotel sits right on this gorgeous stretch of coastline where the water is so impossibly blue it almost hurts your eyes. What really got me though was how quiet everything felt once I stepped inside. You’re technically still close to the main island (maybe 15 minutes back to Hirara if you need anything), but it feels like you’ve escaped to your own private corner of Okinawa. The rooms face the ocean, and I’m not talking about some distant glimpse – you wake up to waves literally lapping at the rocks below. The sound is incredible at night, actually… sort of this gentle whooshing that’s way better than any white noise machine.
The staff here gets it, you know? They’re not hovering, but they genuinely seem to care about making sure you’re settled. Check-in was smooth (thank god, because I was exhausted from the flight connections), and they actually gave me useful local tips – like where to catch the best sunset views from the bridge, and which convenience store back in Shimoji has the good bento boxes. The hotel restaurant is solid, though honestly, I found myself driving back to the main island for dinner most nights just because I wanted to explore. Parking was never an issue, which is saying something during peak season. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable – not fancy, but everything works and the beds are actually good. Air conditioning runs quiet, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to sleep with the windows open for that ocean breeze. I did notice the WiFi gets a bit spotty during busy hours, but honestly, isn’t that kind of the point of being out here? There’s something refreshing about being just disconnected enough to actually relax, but not so cut off that you panic about missing important messages. The 9.3 rating makes sense once you’ve been here – it’s not trying to be some flashy resort with a million amenities, but what it does, it does really well.

This place is not at the level as it thinks it would like to be. Everything looks low cost.

フロントが24時間対応、ホテル敷地内送迎、どれもこれも大変満足で宮古島にもう一度来た時はまた泊まりたいです。お部屋もお風呂場も全部広くスタッフさんも皆さんもご親切に対応してくださり本当に最高でした。新婚旅行の目的で泊まりましたが素敵な思い出になりました。
