HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up that winding drive to Nemacolin – I mean, you’re out there in the Laurel Highlands, and honestly, Farmington isn’t exactly a bustling metropolis. But then you round that last curve and suddenly there’s this sprawling resort that looks like someone dropped a piece of old-world elegance right into the Pennsylvania mountains. The valet actually sprinted over to grab my bags, which was a nice touch after that two-hour drive from Pittsburgh.
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to feel both fancy and approachable at the same time. Sure, there’s definitely some serious money walking around – you’ll see people heading off to the golf courses in those little carts, and the spa crowd has that relaxed, wealthy glow – but the staff treats everyone like they belong there. I spent way too much time just wandering around because there’s always something to discover. One minute you’re walking past these incredible art installations (apparently they have some pretty serious pieces), and the next you’re stumbling onto a terrace with views that make you forget you’re still in Pennsylvania. The rooms are honestly better than most five-star places I’ve stayed – mine had this huge bathroom with heated floors that I may have enjoyed a little too much on those chilly mountain mornings.
Here’s the thing though – and locals will tell you this – Nemacolin isn’t just a hotel, it’s basically its own little world. You could easily spend a week there and never run out of things to do, which is actually kind of perfect because once you’re settled in, you really don’t want to leave. The food situation is legitimately impressive too – I’m talking multiple restaurants where you can go from casual to blow-your-mind fancy depending on your mood. And if you’re into outdoor stuff (which, honestly, you should be in this area), they’ve got everything sorted. The fall colors alone are worth the trip, but even in the off-season, there’s something magical about being tucked away in those rolling hills. Just a heads up though – weekends can get pretty busy, especially during peak foliage season, so if you’re looking for that quiet retreat vibe, maybe aim for a Tuesday check-in.

great place, would definitely return, however, cost of stay was extremely high...so come prepared to spend money. Shuttle service was the best, room was extraordinarily great and very comfortable. This is a a very nice luxury hotel/stay.
