The staff genuinely knows the area too – not just the tourist spots, but where locals actually go for ramen at 11 PM on a Tuesday.

The rooms themselves are smart rather than flashy. Everything’s been thought through for people who are actually in Hokkaido to do things, not just lie around the hotel. Plenty of space to spread out your snow gear in winter, good lighting for planning your day, and – this matters more than you’d think – really effective blackout curtains for those summer nights when it stays light until almost 10 PM. I stayed during cherry blossom season and you could hear a bit of street noise from 6 Jo-dori, but it’s the good kind of urban hum that reminds you you’re in the middle of a real, working city. The breakfast situation is solid too, with local Hokkaido ingredients that actually taste like something – not the generic hotel buffet stuff you get at a lot of places. Sure, at this price point you might expect a few more bells and whistles, but I’d rather have a place that does the essentials really well than somewhere that’s all show. If you’re using Asahikawa as your base for exploring central Hokkaido, this place gets it right where it counts.
