The breakfast – well, it’s this perfect mix of Japanese precision and Okinawan soul food that changes based on what’s actually fresh that morning. And the rooms? Each one’s positioned so you wake up to unobstructed ocean views, but more importantly, you can actually open the windows and hear the waves. Sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised how many places seal you into climate-controlled boxes. The evening turndown service includes these tiny local pottery cups with awamori samples – different distilleries each night, which I thought was a nice touch that showed they actually understand the culture they’re sitting in. Check-in’s refreshingly low-key too; they’ll offer you tea and basically treat you like you’re visiting relatives rather than processing you through some corporate system. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay not because there’s tons to do, but because leaving feels almost rude to yourself.
