Palace Hotel Tokyo Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in Tokyo, but the Palace Hotel honestly caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best way possible. You know how most luxury places in Marunouchi feel a bit stuffy and corporate? This one actually manages to feel both sophisticated and welcoming, which is harder to pull off than you’d think. The moment you walk into that lobby, there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s pretty remarkable considering you’re literally across from Tokyo Station (and trust me, you can hear the hustle if you listen for it, but somehow it doesn’t feel intrusive).
What really gets me about this place is the view situation – I mean, you’re staring directly at the Imperial Palace East Gardens, which is sort of surreal when you think about it. Most Tokyo hotels give you concrete and neon, but here you’ve got these ancient pine trees and traditional stonework right outside your window. The rooms themselves are spacious by Tokyo standards (actually spacious, not “Tokyo spacious” which usually means you can touch both walls at once), and there’s this attention to detail that feels distinctly Japanese without being theme-park-y about it. The bathroom marble is ridiculous – like, almost too nice to actually use, but you will anyway because the soaking tub is perfect after walking around Ginza all day.
Here’s what I wish someone had told me before I went: the restaurant situation is legitimately excellent, but book ahead because locals know about this place too. The French restaurant on the sixth floor – Crown – is where Tokyo business people bring clients they actually want to impress, not just expense-account dinners. And honestly, the breakfast is worth getting up for, which says something because I’m normally a coffee-and-go person. The service walks that perfect line between attentive and not hovering, which can be tricky to find in five-star places. One tiny thing though – the WiFi can be a bit spotty on higher floors during busy periods, but the front desk sorts it out quickly if you mention it. The location is pretty much unbeatable if you’re doing any business in the financial district or want easy access to everywhere else (Ginza is a five-minute walk, Nihonbashi is right there, and you’re connected to half of Tokyo via the station tunnels). It’s pricey, sure, but for what you get – and where you are – it actually feels reasonable, which is saying something for Tokyo luxury hotels.
