The spa is this sleek, contemporary addition that somehow doesn’t clash with the original Georgian features. I spent way too much time in their thermal suite (the outdoor vitality pool is heated to 37 degrees year-round, which feels incredible on a crisp Surrey morning). The treatments are pricey, sure, but they’re not just going through the motions – I had this deep tissue massage that actually sorted out my shoulders after months of desk work. Staff really knows their stuff, and they don’t oversell you on products afterward, which I appreciate.

What really sets this place apart though is how they handle the whole country estate vibe without being stuffy about it. Yes, there’s a dress code for dinner – no shorts or flip-flops – but it’s more “smart casual” than “black tie required.” The Latymer restaurant has a Michelin star, and honestly, it deserves it. Chef Steve Smith does this modern British thing that doesn’t feel pretentious, just really, really good. Though fair warning – dinner there will easily run you £100+ per person without wine. For something more relaxed, the Ascot Bar does excellent fish and chips, and you can actually eat outside on the terrace when weather permits. The grounds are perfect for walking off a big meal too – there’s this little lake and some proper woodland paths. Parking is free and plentiful, which sounds minor but isn’t when you’re paying £400+ a night. Check-in was smooth, though weekends can get busy with spa day-trippers and wedding parties. Speaking of which – if you’re noise-sensitive, maybe ask about events when booking. The wedding receptions can get lively, though they do keep things reasonable timewise. Overall though, if you want that English countryside luxury experience without driving hours from London, this place delivers. Just don’t expect a bargain.
