So here’s the thing about Pure Motel – it’s sitting right on Fenton Street, which honestly is perfect if you actually want to experience Rotorua instead of hiding from it. I mean, Fenton is basically the main drag where everything happens, and you’re walking distance from most of the geothermal action without being right on top of the tourist chaos around the Government Gardens.

The place itself surprised me, actually. You know how motels can go either way? This one’s clearly had some love put into it recently. The rooms are clean and modern enough – not fancy, but you’ve got everything you need and the beds are actually comfortable (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given at this price point). What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being on a busy street. The units are set back a bit, and there’s decent parking right outside your door, which becomes a big deal when you’re hauling around muddy hiking gear or coming back late from the night markets. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too – gave me actual local tips about which thermal pools to hit early in the morning before the crowds arrive.

Location-wise, you’re maybe a five-minute walk to Eat Streat (that’s the little dining precinct they’ve set up), and honestly, being able to stumble back after trying the local craft beer scene was pretty convenient. If you’re planning to do the Redwoods or any of the lake activities, you’re not stuck in town traffic trying to get out there. The whole strip has this slightly retro vibe that works – it’s not trying to be boutique, just solid and straightforward. I stayed during autumn when Rotorua can get pretty chilly at night, and the heating worked well, plus there’s that sulfur smell everyone talks about, but it’s really not as intense as people make it out to be. You get used to it in about ten minutes, and honestly, it just becomes part of the whole Rotorua experience. For a 3.5-star place with decent ratings, Pure Motel delivers exactly what it promises – a clean, comfortable base that doesn’t eat your entire travel budget but puts you right where you want to be.
