Regenta Baywatch Resort, Goa Overview
Look, I’ll be straight with you about Regenta Baywatch Resort – it’s one of those places that looks absolutely stunning in photos, and honestly, the location delivers on that promise. You’re right on Sernabatim Beach Road, which is actually a quieter stretch compared to the chaos of main Colva Beach (though you’re literally a two-minute walk from all that action if you want it). The property itself is properly gorgeous – think colonial-style architecture with those red-tiled roofs that just scream old Goa charm, set against palm trees that actually look like they belong in a postcard.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting – and I mean this in the most diplomatic way possible. This is technically a five-star property, but you know what? It feels more like a really solid four-star that’s trying its best. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, don’t get me wrong, and the pool area is genuinely beautiful (especially in the early morning when it’s just you and maybe a couple of other early risers). The staff is incredibly friendly too – that genuine Goan hospitality that makes you feel like you’re visiting family. But there are little things that remind you this isn’t your typical luxury resort experience. The Wi-Fi can be spotty, especially during peak season when the place fills up with families, and some of the fixtures show their age if you look closely. I actually stayed here during monsoon season once, and while the rain on those clay tiles was absolutely magical to listen to, the humidity does make everything feel a bit… well, tropical in ways you might not expect.
What really works about this place, though, is its soul. You’re close enough to Margao (maybe 20 minutes by taxi) to hit up the municipal market for proper Goan sausages and bebinca, but far enough from the main tourist drag that you can actually hear the waves at night. The beach access is fantastic – you walk out and you’re on this gorgeous stretch of sand that locals still use for their evening walks and football games. During peak season (December through February), it gets busy, but honestly, watching the sunset from their beachside restaurant with a properly cold Kingfisher is still one of my favorite Goa experiences. The food at the resort is decent – nothing that’ll blow your mind, but the fish curry rice is authentic and the breakfast spread has enough variety to keep everyone happy. Just remember that this is Goa, so everything operates on island time, including room service. If you’re the type who needs everything to run like clockwork, this might test your patience. But if you can embrace that laid-back vibe and appreciate a place with character over polish, you’ll probably love it here.
