Renaissance Santiago by Marriott Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Renaissance Santiago on Avenida Presidente Kennedy, I wasn’t expecting much. The building’s got this sort of corporate glass facade that screams “business hotel,” but once you step inside, it’s actually pretty impressive. The lobby has this warm, sophisticated vibe that feels distinctly Chilean rather than cookie-cutter international, which I appreciated.
What really won me over was the location in Vitacura – and I mean, if you know Santiago at all, you know this is where you want to be. You’re walking distance from Costanera Center (hello, best shopping and that incredible sky deck), but more importantly, you’re right in the heart of where locals actually hang out. The hotel sits perfectly between the financial district and the more residential areas, so you get this authentic feel of how the city actually works. I loved that I could grab coffee at the little places along Kennedy without feeling like a total tourist, and honestly, the metro access makes getting to the historic center super easy.
The rooms themselves are solid – I mean, it’s Marriott, so you know what you’re getting in terms of comfort and cleanliness. But what I didn’t expect was how quiet it would be, considering you’re on one of Santiago’s busiest avenues. The windows actually do their job, which is something you learn to appreciate after staying in a few places where traffic noise keeps you up all night. The fitness center’s decent if you’re into that, and the restaurant… well, it’s fine for breakfast, but honestly, with all the incredible food options in Vitacura, you’d be crazy not to venture out. There’s this little parrilla about three blocks away that locals swear by – way better than anything you’ll get in a hotel restaurant.
What really sets this place apart is the staff’s local knowledge. The concierge actually knows the neighborhood, not just the tourist traps. When I asked about getting to La Dehesa for a meeting, he knew exactly which bus to catch and where the construction delays were that week – that’s the kind of insight you can’t Google. Parking’s included, which is huge in Santiago (trust me on this), and the whole check-in process was refreshingly efficient.
I’ll say this – at 8.3 rating, it’s not perfect, but it hits that sweet spot where you feel like you’re staying somewhere nice without paying those insane luxury hotel prices. It’s the kind of place where business travelers feel comfortable, but you don’t feel out of place if you’re just exploring the city. The pool area’s a nice bonus during Santiago’s hot summers, though it gets pretty busy during peak season. Overall, if you want to experience Santiago like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through, this is your spot.
