Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of beachfront hotels in Okinawa, and honestly? The Rizzan Sea Park Hotel in Tancha Bay gets it right in ways that surprised me. When you first pull up — and parking is actually pretty straightforward, which isn’t always a given around Onna — the building itself is sort of imposing in that 80s resort way. Not exactly Instagram-pretty from the outside, but you know what? Once you’re inside looking out at that stretch of Tancha Bay, none of that matters.

The thing about this place is its location on the coast. I mean, you’re right there on one of the better swimming beaches on the island, and it’s not packed with day-trippers like some of the spots further south. The water here has that perfect Okinawan blue-green thing going on, and the hotel’s beach area feels spacious enough that you’re not fighting for sand real estate. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets in the evenings — you can actually hear the waves from most of the ocean-facing rooms, which is something you don’t always get at the bigger resorts. The staff seems to know their regulars too; I watched them greet a Japanese family like old friends, complete with bowing and genuine smiles that you can’t fake.

Now, it’s definitely showing its age in places — some of the hallway carpeting has seen better days, and the elevator takes its sweet time — but the bones are solid. The rooms are larger than you’d expect, especially if you’re used to cramped Tokyo hotel standards, and they’ve kept up with the bathrooms and air conditioning where it counts. Breakfast is where they really shine though; proper Okinawan specialties alongside the usual hotel fare, and their goya champuru is actually legit. The dining room overlooks the water, so you’re eating while watching fishing boats head out for the day. Check-in was smooth around 3 PM on a Tuesday, though I imagine weekends and summer might be different story. If you’re the type who needs to be walking distance from Kokusai-dori or tons of nightlife, this isn’t your spot — but if you want that proper Okinawan beach experience without the resort hotel prices of the big chains, the Rizzan delivers. Just bring a rental car, because while there’s a bus route, you’ll want the freedom to explore the northern beaches that most tourists skip entirely.
