HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ll be straight with you about the Royal Orchid Brindavan Garden – it’s one of those places where the location does most of the heavy lifting, and honestly, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. You’re literally staying right next to the famous Brindavan Gardens (yeah, the ones with all the musical fountains), which means you can actually walk over there in the evening without dealing with the chaos of finding parking among all the tour buses. I mean, most visitors to Mysore have to drive out here from the city center, fight for a parking spot, and then trudge around with crowds – but you? You’re basically living next door to one of Karnataka’s biggest tourist draws.
The hotel itself feels like it’s trying really hard to live up to that “Royal” in its name, and while it doesn’t quite hit five-star luxury by international standards, it’s definitely solid for this part of Karnataka. The rooms are spacious – actually spacious, not just “spacious for India” – and most of them have pretty decent views of either the gardens or the Krishna Raja Sagar dam. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night; you’d think being so close to a major attraction would mean constant noise, but once the day-trippers clear out around 8 PM, it’s surprisingly peaceful. The staff genuinely seems to know the area well too, which is refreshing – they can tell you exactly when the fountain show starts (it changes seasonally) and which entrance to use to avoid the worst crowds.
Here’s the thing though – the 7.7 rating makes sense when you factor in that this isn’t Bangalore or Mumbai hospitality. Service can be a bit slower than you might expect, and the restaurant, while decent, doesn’t have a huge variety. But you know what? The breakfast spread is actually pretty good, and they do a solid South Indian selection alongside the usual continental stuff. Plus, you’re staying in Belagula, which means you’re perfectly positioned for day trips – Mysore Palace is about 45 minutes away, Srirangapatna is even closer, and if you’re feeling adventurous, you can hit up Bandipur National Park without having to wake up at dawn. The hotel can arrange drivers who actually know these routes well, which saves you the headache of navigating rural Karnataka roads on your own. I’d say it’s worth it if you want to experience this part of Karnataka without roughing it too much, especially during the cooler months when the gardens are at their best and the evening strolls are absolutely perfect.
