What I really appreciated was how quiet the rooms stay despite being surrounded by all that city buzz. I was on the eighth floor facing toward the harbor, and honestly, the double glazing must be decent because I barely heard the morning traffic. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re what you’d call “contemporary comfortable.” Not trying too hard to be trendy, but everything works properly – good shower pressure, decent-sized desk if you need to get work done, and the bed was actually firm enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with a marshmallow all night.

Here’s what nobody tells you though – the staff at check-in actually know Wellington. I asked about decent coffee that wasn’t Starbucks (because, come on), and the guy behind the desk gave me three specific recommendations within walking distance, including this little place on Grey Street that I never would’ve found otherwise. That kind of local knowledge makes a difference when you’re only in town for a few days. The hotel gym is surprisingly well-equipped for the space they’re working with, and if you’re there during winter, you’ll appreciate that the heating actually keeps up with Wellington’s infamous wind chill. Parking costs extra – about what you’d expect in central Wellington – but at least it’s secure and you don’t have to circle the block hunting for a meter. I’d say the 4.5-star rating feels about right; it’s definitely a step up from your standard business hotel, but it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want, especially when you’re paying for location and reliability rather than marble bathrooms and complimentary champagne you probably won’t drink anyway.
