Ryugujo Spa Hotel Mikazuki Fujimitei Overview
You know, I’ve stayed at plenty of onsen hotels across Japan, but Ryugujo Spa Hotel Mikazuki Fujimitei in Kisarazu really caught me off guard – in the best way possible. First off, the name’s a mouthful (honestly, just call it Mikazuki like the locals do), but once you’re pulling up to this sprawling complex right on Kisarazu’s waterfront, you’ll forget all about trying to pronounce it correctly.
The thing that hits you immediately is the view – I mean, you’re literally staring across Tokyo Bay, and on clear days you can actually make out the Tokyo skyline shimmering in the distance. It’s one of those spots where you realize how close you are to the capital but feel worlds away from all that urban chaos.
The healing spa hotel itself is this interesting mix of traditional ryokan vibes with modern resort amenities, and somehow it actually works. The onsen facilities are genuinely impressive – multiple indoor and outdoor baths with different mineral compositions, plus they’ve got this massive pool complex that’s perfect if you’re traveling with kids who might not be totally sold on the whole “sitting quietly in hot springs” concept. What
I really appreciated was how they handle the crowds; yes, it gets busy (especially on weekends and holidays), but the staff has this down to a science. Check-in was surprisingly smooth even during Golden Week madness, and they’ve got enough bath facilities that you’re never fighting for space. The rooms vary quite a bit – some are traditional tatami setups, others more Western-style – but even the standard ones have decent bay views if you’re on the right side of the building.
Here’s what really sets this place apart though: the location gives you options. You’re not stuck in some remote mountain village (beautiful as those can be), but you’re also not dealing with city noise and pollution. Kisarazu itself is pretty quiet – there’s decent parking, the train connections to Tokyo are actually reasonable if you want to day-trip, and you’ve got the Aqua-Line bridge right there, which is honestly worth the drive just for the experience.
The hotel restaurant situation is solid too; nothing groundbreaking, but they do a proper kaiseki dinner that changes seasonally, and breakfast has enough variety to keep everyone happy. I’ll be honest, the building shows its age in some spots, and the decor can feel a bit dated, but the bones are good and the staff clearly takes pride in the place. For families or couples wanting that onsen experience without being completely cut off from civilization, it’s actually a pretty sweet spot. The 8.4 rating feels about right – not perfect, but definitely delivers on what it promises.
