Ryukyu Hotel & Resort Nashiro Beach Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Ryukyu Hotel & Resort Nashiro Beach – I mean, Itoman isn’t exactly where most tourists head when they hit Okinawa. But you know what? That’s actually what makes this place so damn special. While everyone’s fighting for beach space up in Naha or getting gouged at the resort hotels near the airport, you’ve got this gorgeous stretch of Nashiro Beach basically to yourself.
The hotel itself sits right on the water, and I’m talking like fifty steps from the lobby to sand-between-your-toes territory. The rooms are proper luxury – none of that cramped business hotel nonsense you sometimes get stuck with in Japan. Mine had this massive window that basically framed the East China Sea, and honestly, I spent way too much time just watching the local fishing boats head out at dawn. The whole place has this understated elegance thing going on… very Okinawan, if that makes sense. Think clean lines and natural materials, but with enough traditional touches that you remember you’re somewhere special. Check-in was smooth as butter too – the staff actually remembered my name by day two, which never happens at the big chain places.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to feel authentically local while still hitting those five-star marks. The restaurant sources a ton of stuff from nearby farms and fishermen (try the goya champuru – seriously), and you can actually walk to some legit local spots if you want to venture out. There’s this tiny family-run soba place about ten minutes down the coast road that the concierge recommended… total gem. The hotel’s spa is ridiculous too – they do this traditional Okinawan massage that basically melted three months of stress out of my shoulders. Fair warning though: if you’re here during Golden Week or Obon, it gets busier, but even then it’s nothing like the zoo you’ll find at the big resort strips. Parking’s easy, the beach stays pretty quiet since most day-trippers don’t make it this far south, and honestly? The sunsets from the infinity pool area are worth the trip alone. This place gets a 9.0 rating for good reason – it’s what a luxury beach resort should be without all the pretentious nonsense that usually comes with the territory.
