SAPPORO HOTEL by GRANBELL Overview
You know what struck me first about SAPPORO HOTEL by GRANBELL? It’s tucked into this surprisingly quiet corner of Higashi-ku that most tourists completely miss – and honestly, that’s part of its charm. I mean, you’re still close enough to everything that matters, but you’re not dealing with the chaos of Susukino or the tourist crowds around Odori Park. The building itself has this clean, modern vibe that feels distinctly Japanese without trying too hard to be trendy.
The staff here actually gets it – they seem to understand that travelers want efficiency without feeling rushed. Check-in was smooth (even when I showed up slightly early after a long flight), and the front desk folks spoke enough English to handle questions but weren’t overly formal about it. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully compact – everything you need is there, but they’ve clearly put effort into making the space feel bigger than it actually is. The beds are properly firm, which seems to be hit or miss at a lot of hotels in this price range. One thing that surprised me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re still in the city. I’m usually a light sleeper, but the soundproofing here is legitimately good.
What really sold me on this place was the location once you start exploring. You’ve got the Toyohira River right there for morning walks, and it’s an easy hop to the subway if you want to hit up the fish market or head over to the shopping districts. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize – this area comes alive for locals in the evening. There are these small izakayas and ramen spots within walking distance that you’d never find if you stayed in the more obvious tourist areas. The hotel’s neighborhood has that lived-in feel where you can grab groceries at a proper supermarket (not just convenience stores) and see how Sapporo actually works when it’s not performing for visitors. The only minor downside? The breakfast isn’t anything special – decent coffee and the basics, but you’re honestly better off wandering out to try some of the local spots anyway. At an 8.6 rating, this place delivers exactly what it promises without any weird surprises, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want after a long day of exploring Hokkaido.
Guest Reviews
It is very clean. I did not know it just opened this March. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Good English. The 26th flor lounge is beautiful and relaxing. You can see very far as it is one of the tallest building around the area. The room we...
New hotel with great location - walking distance from the main station - and superb onsen.
It’s new
What could be improved: The service fell short of expectations. We arrived 10 minutes before the check-in time, but we were not allowed to check in. As a result, everyone had to check in simultaneously, leading to long wait times.
What could be improved:
What could be improved:
What could be improved:
What could be improved:
What could be improved:
