The drive from Mananthavady town takes maybe fifteen minutes through some winding roads that’ll have you wondering if your GPS is playing tricks on you, but then you round this curve and there it is – this gorgeous resort that somehow manages to look both grand and completely at home in the landscape.

The staff actually remembers your name by day two, which is refreshing when you’re used to being “room 237” everywhere else. I stayed during the monsoon season last year (probably not the smartest timing, but honestly? The rain drumming on the roof at night was incredible), and they had this whole system figured out – covered walkways, umbrellas stationed everywhere, even these cute little rain boots by the entrance. The rooms face different directions, and if you can swing it, ask for one overlooking the valley – the morning mist rolling through is something else entirely. Fair warning though: the Wi-Fi gets a bit sketchy during heavy downpours, but that’s kind of the point of being out here, isn’t it?

What really sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to keep that authentic Kerala vibe without skimping on comfort. The architecture has these traditional elements – you know, the sloped roofs and wooden accents – but your bathroom still has that rainfall shower and the AC actually works (crucial in this humidity). The restaurant serves this incredible fish curry that the chef told me uses coconut oil from trees right on the property, and you can taste the difference. I mean, I’m not usually one to get excited about hotel food, but I went back for seconds every single night. The resort gets busy during festival seasons – Onam especially – so book ahead if you’re planning around then. But here’s the thing: even when it’s full, the grounds are spacious enough that you never feel crowded. There are these little nooks everywhere, perfect for reading or just watching the birds (and there are so many birds). The pool area stays lively until around sunset, then everything sort of naturally winds down as people head to dinner or those evening cultural performances they do twice a week. It’s that rare place where a 5-star rating actually feels earned rather than just expensive – like they’ve thought through every detail without making it feel overthought, if that makes sense.
