HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what struck me first about Silver Legacy? It’s that massive dome – honestly, you can’t miss it when you’re walking down Virginia Street. I mean, it looks like someone dropped a Victorian-era snow globe right in the middle of downtown Reno, and somehow it actually works. The whole place has this sort of retro-futuristic mining theme going on that could’ve been cheesy, but they pulled it off pretty well.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to be in the thick of things. You’re literally connected to Harrah’s and Eldorado through these skywalks (super handy when it’s snowing), and you can walk to pretty much everything downtown without dealing with your car. Parking’s free though, which is huge – I’ve stayed at places in smaller cities that charge you twenty bucks just to park overnight. The rooms are solid for a four-star place, nothing that’ll blow your mind but definitely comfortable. I actually liked that they’re not trying too hard to be ultra-modern… there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole setup. The casino floor gets pretty lively on weekends – you’ll hear it if you’re on the lower floors, but it’s not like Vegas-level chaos.
What really sets Silver Legacy apart is how it feels authentically Reno, if that makes sense. This isn’t some corporate chain trying to replicate Vegas – it’s got its own personality. The Victorian square under that dome is genuinely cool to walk through, especially in the evening when they’ve got the lighting going. There’s decent food options without the ridiculous Strip pricing, and the staff actually seems to know the area when you ask for recommendations. I had a front desk guy tell me about this little basque place a few blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise. The whole ROW setup means you’ve got options if you want to casino-hop, but you’re also close enough to the Truckee River if you want to escape the slots and actually see some nature. Check-in was smooth – they seem to have their systems figured out, which honestly isn’t always a given with these older casino hotels. For the price point and the rating, you’re getting solid value here, especially if you want that classic Nevada casino experience without the Vegas crowds and expenses.

When we first arrived, we were greeted by Ivy who helped check us in rather than using those annoying, non-human self check kiosks. We also received 2 mini bottles of water. Our room was clean and comfortable. I was worried about noise since the National high school wrestling championship teams were staying there, but we didn’t hear a thing.
