First Impressions

You know what hits you first at Silver Sand Beach Resort Havelock? It’s not just the pristine stretch of Beach No. 5 right outside your door — though that’s pretty spectacular — it’s how this five-star resort manages to feel both luxurious and completely unpretentious. I mean, you’re literally stepping off powdery white sand into marble lobbies, but somehow it doesn’t feel jarring. The staff here actually remembers your name after day one, which honestly surprised me given how many guests they handle during peak season.

The Island Setting

Havelock Island itself is something special, and this resort sits on what locals consider the best beach on the island. Vijay Nagar Beach stretches for miles in both directions, and you’ll find yourself with plenty of space even when the resort’s fully booked. The water here has this incredible turquoise clarity that makes snorkeling almost addictive — I spent way more time in the water than I’d planned. What’s really nice is that couples seem to gravitate here (they rate the location nearly 9 out of 10), but it never feels like you’re intruding on anyone’s romantic getaway.

The room I stayed in faced the ocean directly, with floor-to-ceiling windows that you can slide completely open to let in those constant sea breezes. The design walks this interesting line between contemporary luxury and island casual — think polished concrete floors with handwoven textiles, modern fixtures alongside driftwood accents. The spa treatments here incorporate traditional Ayurvedic techniques, and honestly, the massage pavilions set right on the beach are worth the splurge. There’s also excellent parking available on-site, which matters more than you’d think when you’re hauling dive gear and beach equipment around.

The diving here is absolutely world-class — Havelock sits in the middle of some of the Andaman Sea’s most pristine coral reefs. The resort’s dive center is PADI-certified and they know all the best spots, including some lesser-known sites that day-trippers from other islands rarely reach. For fishing enthusiasts, the early morning excursions are fantastic, though you’ll want to book those the night before. The main restaurant focuses heavily on fresh seafood (obviously), but they also do surprisingly good Indian regional cuisine — the Bengali fish curry became my go-to dinner order.
