Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Solang Valley Resort in Palchan, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The road getting there is… well, it’s a proper mountain road, let’s put it that way. But once you’re actually at the property, you get why they built it right here. The views hit you immediately, and I mean the kind of Himalayan vistas that make you stop mid-conversation and just stare.

The thing about this place is it really gets the balance right between fancy resort amenities and that authentic Himachal mountain feel. You’re literally a stone’s throw from Solang Valley’s adventure activities – the paragliding launch point is so close you can watch people taking off while you’re having your morning chai. Which, by the way, they serve on the terrace and it’s actually good, not the watered-down hotel stuff you sometimes get. The staff here knows the area inside and out too. When I mentioned wanting to hit some of the less touristy spots around Manali, the front desk guy (Rajesh, I think?) pulled out this hand-drawn map and marked places I never would have found otherwise.

Now, the 8.0 rating makes sense when you stay here. It’s definitely five-star level – the rooms are spacious with proper heating (crucial in the mountains, trust me), and the bathrooms have those rainfall showers that actually work well. But honestly, what sold me was the little stuff. Like how they keep the common areas warm without making them stuffy, or how the restaurant actually adapts their menu based on what’s fresh from the local markets. The dal they serve changes depending on what’s in season, which sounds small but shows they’re paying attention. The only thing I’d mention is that if you’re a super light sleeper, ask for a room away from the main road – not that it’s loud, but you do get the occasional truck heading up to the valley early in the morning. Also, parking can get tight during peak season (basically any time there’s good weather for adventure sports), but they’ll sort you out if you mention it when booking. What really impressed me was how they handle the location – you’re close enough to walk to Solang Valley’s activities, but far enough up the hill that you feel like you’re escaping the crowds when you come back to the resort.
