HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of ski lodges over the years, but Stein Eriksen Lodge is honestly in a league of its own. The moment you pull up that winding drive on Stein Way – and yes, parking is handled by valet which is actually a relief because navigating those mountain roads with luggage is no joke – you immediately get why this place has that 9.6 rating. It’s this massive Norwegian-style lodge that somehow manages to feel both grand and cozy at the same time, perched right in the heart of Deer Valley where you’re literally steps from some of the best skiing Utah has to offer.
What really sets this place apart, though, is how they’ve nailed every single detail without making it feel stuffy or pretentious. The lobby has this incredible stone fireplace that’s always crackling (you can smell that woodsmoke the second you walk in), and the staff actually remembers your name after one interaction – I mean, that sounds basic for a five-star place, but you’d be surprised how rare it actually is. The rooms are spacious in that mountain lodge way, with those thick wooden beams and views that’ll make you stand at the window way longer than you planned. Pro tip: if you’re here during ski season, request a slope-side room because watching the early morning groomers work the mountain while you’re having coffee is honestly magical.
The location is pretty perfect if you know the area – you’re right on Silver Lake Village, so you can ski out in the morning and ski back for lunch without dealing with shuttles or long walks in ski boots. After spending time in Park City proper (which gets crazy busy, especially during Sundance), coming back to Deer Valley feels like this peaceful escape. The dining here is legitimately excellent too – their Glitretind restaurant has this elk tenderloin that I still think about months later, and the wine list actually makes sense instead of just being expensive for the sake of it. Even their more casual spots nail it; grab breakfast at Troll Hallen before hitting the slopes and you’ll understand why locals come here even when they’re not staying overnight. The spa is one of those places where you book a 60-minute massage and somehow lose three hours because everything just flows so naturally. Only real critique? The WiFi can be spotty in some rooms – mountain locations, you know – but honestly, that might be a feature rather than a bug depending on why you’re here.

The Stein has one of the best ski-in ski-out locations. Ski lockers are amazing with wonderful staff. You really get spoiled. Our room overlooked the pool and mountain with a balcony and private hot tub.
