What really got me was how they’ve managed to feel luxurious without being stuffy about it. The spa – God, the spa – uses these local herbs and oils that you can actually smell growing in their gardens. I’m usually skeptical of hotel spas (overpriced and underwhelming, right?) but their Ayurvedic treatments are the real deal. The hotel runs a shuttle service, but if you’re the type who likes to wander around randomly or hit up those late-night rooftop restaurants, you’ll want to factor in some taxi costs. That said, the isolation is exactly why this place works. No honking rickshaws at 6 AM, no street vendors calling up to your balcony. Just birds and the occasional peacock call (yes, actual peacocks – saw three during my four-day stay). The restaurant sources a lot of ingredients from local farms in the area, and you can taste the difference, especially in their dal and the fresh vegetables. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy working there, which always tells you something about a place. Check-in was smooth, parking’s never an issue, and they remember your name after day one. If you’re looking for that Instagram-perfect Rajasthani palace experience, this isn’t it – but if you want to actually relax and experience what makes this part of India special, Swarnagarh delivers in ways that surprised me.
