HOTEL OVERVIEW

Honestly, when I first heard about Tenseien Odawara Station Annex being located inside the MINAKA Odawara complex, I wasn’t sure what to expect – I mean, a hotel on the fourth floor of what’s essentially a shopping and dining development? But you know what, it actually works really well. The moment you step off the elevator, there’s this immediate sense that you’re somewhere thoughtfully designed, not just squeezed into leftover retail space.

The location is honestly perfect if you’re using Odawara as your base for exploring the area. You’re literally connected to the station – and I mean literally, not in that “five-minute walk” way hotels usually claim. The shinkansen platforms are right there, which makes day trips to Tokyo or down to Atami ridiculously easy. What I really appreciated though was having all those restaurants and the convenience store downstairs. After a long day hiking around Hakone or exploring Odawara Castle (which is actually a pleasant walk from here, by the way), you don’t have to venture far for a decent meal or to grab snacks for the next day.

The rooms themselves feel more spacious than typical Japanese business hotels – there’s actually room to fully open your suitcase without doing some kind of furniture tetris. The bathrooms are notably well-designed too, with proper lighting for getting ready and shower pressure that doesn’t make you question your life choices. I stayed during cherry blossom season when everything in the area was absolutely packed, and while I could occasionally hear the train announcements if I really listened for them, it never felt intrusive. The soundproofing is solid, which isn’t always a given when you’re this close to a major transportation hub. What really impressed me was the attention to detail – things like USB ports in convenient spots, blackout curtains that actually work, and bedding that felt genuinely comfortable rather than just adequate. The staff clearly knows their stuff too; they had solid recommendations for local spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps, and check-in was refreshingly smooth even during what was obviously a hectic weekend.

Although the location seemed a little difficult the hotel staff were so kind to send the evening before the way to find the hotel. If you follow it it is vert easy. The location was the best, on top of a shopping mall , connected to the train station. And 10 minutes from the beautiful Odawara tower.
The hotel itself is really great, a big room with a fantastic shower very clean and a really nice ONSEN.

Fantastic location, good size room, clean and modern. Access to many easy locations.

What could be improved: The lifts were shared with public so getting to reception was difficult or back to the hotel as it’s shared with other offices or shopping areas.

Breakfast is always great. Super friendly staff (we spoke English and used translator apps). GREAT location- basically in the train station, walkable to many restaurants, stores, and transportation (ie bus, taxi, train).

What could be improved: For Americans the rooms could be small. We knew this before and made sure to pick the right larger room. I would suggest making sure people double check room photos before booking (especially for large suitcases). We LOVE our room but again we knew what to book

What could be improved: Tatoo restrictions for onsen access. I don't have any, but my friend does and it should be obvious that a white woman with a moth tattoo is not a yakuza.

Being attached to the station was very convenient when you arrive very late at night. The room was very clean and a decent size. Would love to stay here again but for at least 3 nights so we can explore Odawara and also catch the switch back train to Gora.

What could be improved: We found it hard to find the hotel even though clear instructions were given to us. After an 8 hour flight , 11:30 at night and it's very cold things seem to be harder to find. Maybe a hotel sign at the bottom of the stairs, which are on your right, pointing up the stairs would help.

Great location next to station. Ideal of travelling to Hakone area.

What could be improved: Really difficult to find entrance as no signage in station. Instructions were not very clean so spend 10 mins walking around before we actually found it as all part of the station complex
