Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to The Broadmoor — I mean, you hear about these legendary places, but sometimes the reality doesn’t match the hype. Well, this place actually delivers. The moment you drive through those gates on Lake Avenue, you’re hit with this sprawling pink palazzo that looks like someone transported a piece of old-world Europe right to the base of Cheyenne Mountain. It’s dramatic without being gaudy, which is honestly a fine line that a lot of luxury hotels completely miss.

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to keep that classic resort feel without making you feel like you’re staying in a museum. The lobby’s got these massive windows that frame Cheyenne Lake perfectly — and you know what, that view never gets old, even after a few days. I spent way too much time just wandering around the property because there’s always something tucked away that you didn’t notice before. The spa’s incredible (though book treatments early because locals drive up from Denver just for that), and the golf courses… well, let’s just say playing eighteen holes with the Rockies as your backdrop makes even my terrible swing look somewhat dignified. The restaurants are legitimately good too — not just hotel good, but actually good good. The Penrose Room’s a bit formal for my usual taste, but their Sunday brunch is worth getting dressed up for.

Here’s the thing though — this isn’t some sterile luxury box where you feel like you can’t touch anything. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy working there, which makes a huge difference in how the whole experience feels. Parking’s handled smoothly (valet’s quick and friendly), and they’ve got this shuttle that runs around the property because honestly, the place is massive. Colorado Springs can get pretty busy during summer and fall when the aspens are changing, so if you’re planning to visit then, book early and maybe extend your stay an extra day. There’s something about waking up here with Pikes Peak looming in the distance that makes you want to slow down a bit — which, considering how hectic travel usually is, feels pretty special. It’s pricey, sure, but it’s one of those places where you actually feel like you’re getting what you pay for.
