You know what? The Byke Old Anchor totally surprised me – and I mean that in the best way possible. When you first pull up, it’s this sprawling property that feels way more substantial than your typical 3-star spot, sitting right there on Cavelossim Beach where the sand is actually soft (not that packed-down stuff you get at some of the busier Goa beaches). The whole place has this laid-back vibe that honestly made me forget I was staying somewhere relatively affordable.

Here’s the thing about Cavelossim – it’s far enough south that you’re not dealing with the crowds from Calangute or Baga, but you’re still close enough to hop over to Mobor or even take that quick ride to the Cabo de Rama fort if you’re feeling adventurous. The resort sits in this sweet spot where you can actually hear the waves at night, which I didn’t expect. Check-in was surprisingly smooth too – none of that waiting around while they figure out your reservation. The staff genuinely seemed to know what they were doing, which… well, let’s just say that’s not always a given at this price point in Goa.

What really got me was how they’ve managed the whole beachfront situation. You’ve got direct access, but it’s not like you’re fighting for space with random beach vendors every five minutes. The spa is actually decent – I mean, it’s not going to blow your mind, but after a day of exploring the spice plantations or hitting up the Saturday Night Market in Arpora, those Ayurvedic treatments hit differently. The pool area gets busy around mid-morning when families with kids show up, but if you’re an early riser (which the roosters will ensure you are), you’ll have it mostly to yourself. Food’s solid too – the breakfast spread has enough variety that you won’t get bored over a week-long stay, and their seafood dinners are actually fresh, not frozen and reheated like some places try to get away with. Only minor gripe? The WiFi can be spotty in some of the rooms further from the main building, but honestly, you’re in Goa – maybe that’s not the worst thing. For what you’re paying, especially if you snag one of those off-season deals, this place delivers way more than it promises.
