HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of fancy places along the Georgia coast, but The Cloister on Sea Island is honestly in a league of its own. When you pull up that tree-lined drive – and I mean really pull up, because this place sits on its own private island connected by a causeway – there’s this immediate sense that you’ve left the regular world behind. The Spanish Mediterranean architecture hits you first, all those red tile roofs and stucco walls that somehow feel both grand and welcoming at the same time. I actually love that they’ve kept the original 1928 bones of the place while updating everything that matters.
The thing about Sea Island is that it’s not just some resort dropped onto a beach – it’s this whole carefully crafted environment where everything connects. You can walk from your room to the Beach Club without ever touching a public road, and honestly, that matters more than you’d think. The staff here actually remembers your name (not just the front desk people, but like, the guy who brings towels to the pool), which is rare these days. The spa is tucked away in this quiet corner where you can hear the ocean but not the pool activities, and their golf courses – well, if you’re into that sort of thing, the Seaside Course has these views that’ll make you forget you’re supposed to be concentrating on your swing.
What really gets me is how they handle the details without being stuffy about it. Sure, there’s a dress code for dinner, but it’s more “please don’t wear flip-flops to the main dining room” than “black tie required.” The Beach Club is where you want to be for lunch – they do this incredible she-crab soup that locals will drive over from Brunswick just to have. And here’s something nobody tells you: if you’re visiting in late fall or winter, you’ll practically have the beach to yourself, but the weather’s still mild enough that you can sit outside with a sweater and a cocktail. Summer’s gorgeous but busy (and honestly, pretty humid), so I’d actually recommend shoulder season if you want that perfect balance of great weather and space to breathe. The rooms all have those deep soaking tubs and most have some kind of water view, though the garden views are actually lovely too – less obvious but somehow more peaceful.

We stayed on the wing where we had a view of the river. It was very peaceful. Sitting at the balcony was nice. Room was nice, bed && pillows was super comfortable. Every staff at the cloister was extremely nice.
