The Gold Beach Resort

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to The Gold Beach Resort on Devka Beach, I wasn’t expecting much from a 5-star place with a 7.6 rating. You know how it is with beach hotels sometimes, all promise and no delivery. But this place actually surprised me in ways I didn’t see coming.

The location is what really sells it, and I mean that in the best way possible. You’re literally steps from Devka Beach, which honestly gets overlooked by most tourists who head straight to the main Daman beaches. That’s their loss, because Devka has this laid-back vibe that the other spots just don’t have anymore – especially in the early mornings when the fishing boats are coming in and you’ve got the whole stretch pretty much to yourself. The resort sits right in Marwad, so you’re close enough to the action in Daman proper (maybe a 10-minute rickshaw ride) but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the weekend crowds and honking traffic that can drive you crazy. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s driven around coastal Gujarat will tell you is no small thing.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know the area – not just the rehearsed tourist spots, but the good stuff. The guy at the front desk (check-in took maybe 5 minutes, no drama) told me about this little seafood place down the road that doesn’t even have a proper sign, just locals who’ve been going there for years. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re nice enough for what you’re paying, though I’d say the 5-star rating is maybe a bit generous. Clean, comfortable, decent AC that actually works – but you can tell the place has seen some wear. The balcony views though, especially if you get something facing the water, make up for any minor quirks. There’s something about falling asleep to the sound of waves that just hits different, you know? And the morning light coming off the Arabian Sea is honestly spectacular, especially during the cooler months from November to February when the humidity isn’t trying to kill you. I was there in December and the weather was perfect – warm enough for the beach but not so hot that you’re melting by noon. The resort gets busier on weekends (lots of families from Mumbai making the drive down), but weekdays are pretty chill if you can swing it.
